Hey Harlan,
Is this video new? I think I’ve seen it before.
In any case, I like the message: don’t use NLP (or any ability you have) to manipulate people.
Got it!

Good stuff man, I don’t know the book….I’m sure there was probably some other stuff in there worth reading. I don’t know enough about nlp to tell wrong from right so thanks for setting the record straight on not using it to manipulate.
I don’t know man…I can’t tell from the video you don’t like controversy lol hahahaha….thanks.

This Book Kinda reminds me.. of the painful… I’m going to sleep now.. front row seminar.. in which people are stuck on THEIR ideas.. and products.. and when the master… or Guru is trying to explain to them…
Hey Bitch.. SHUT UP.. LISTEN.. YOUR BROKE.. I’M NOT !!!!

You’ve hurt me Harlan – I’ve actually got this book and liked it. I’ve just gone out and had the ‘Schmuck’ tattoo embedded on my forehead – happy now?
You’re right of course, and nothing has been more ignorantly applied – or spouted about – than embedded commands. But then the book you’re talking about here doesn’t pretend to be a treatise on NLP copywriting, or anything in fact – it’s just a collection of technique snippets and it’s also CHEAP.
What we would all probably really like is a work on NLP copywriting that doesn’t cost a thousand bucks plus. If you don’t write it somebody’s got to.

Harlan…you’re my “hero”.

I understand your viewpoint and even think it can be a valuable perspective… I like the subtlety principle you propose. It makes sense.
I’ve read her book and a few of her sales copy and noticed that unless you’ve learned the techniqes she teaches, the average person probably won’t notice them in the copy. That might be one factor explaining her success as a copywriter.
I think that when her methods are taken out of context they can become more apparent, obviously.
You mentioned about this lady using NLP to manipulate…correct? Well, is it possible that her techniques could be used…and has been used…to “manipulate” someone to a positive outcome?
And also, is it possible that the NLP patterns you teach could be used to “manipulate” a person to a negative outcome?
Afterall “manipulation” is only 1 way of describing influence, persuasion, etc… Which are all just tools…right? As we all know, a tool can be used for good or bad.
Basically what I’m saying is I’d like a breakdown and comparison of how you would write a sales copy compared to hers… Without the needless rhetoric and sandwich/relation statements.

isn’t all selling really manipulation?
Of course, we are trying to get people to take actions that will benefit them, and like hypnosis we can’t get people to do things against their will, but isn’t all copywriting manipulative?
The point seems to be that you should use these techniques in an elegant way that won’t let you get caught manipulating people…
otherwise copy is just a list of features…
isn’t it?

Hey Dr. Kilstein,
I was referred to your site after watching you present at FK’s gig in April.
Amazing stuff.
RE: this video
I have never laughed so much about a short book review about copywriting in my life.
Tears came crashing down my face. I needed that.
You are credit to real education in marketing
Cheers
Chris
