when I used to write software, I could go into a state where four or five hours would pass like five minutes.

the same thing happens when I write about something I am passionate about, and during some copywriting...

one last one is when I am walking on the treadmill, exercising...

how does hypnosis apply to face to face selling? using semi-trance state as a way to get your points across?

this is great stuff Harlan...

Hi

I was just introduced to you and am enjoying your videos here.

The trance I encounter the most in people is the "asking for what I don't want" trance. For example, they will say "don't forget your keys" instead what they want "remember your keys"

The other one that has been very pervasive in the town I live in (Santa Fe, NM) as well as a large part of the world lately that I notice is the "hope" and "change" trance or some derivation of it. Even attempting to just talk to a person that is in the grip of this trance to find out how they derived their beliefs has been a tough challenge, even as a trained Clinical Hypnotherapist!

Harlan,

I've been paying attention to trances in my life... my own trances and other peoples'

Here is a brief list:

1. When my parents are watching TV, or better yet when my mom is watching TV AND playing on her laptop...she's in a DEEP trance and it's hard to shake her with "normal language" unless I yell.

2. When someone tells a story at work, EVERYONE in the room goes into a trance, including me.

Friday, one guy was talking about his experiences with a hallucinagenic drug, and this resulted in a much more lively and happy trance than other stories guys tell about work, life, etc. My coworkers were laughing uncontrollably when he talked about the one-armed man who wasn't really there.

3. Playing music in my band, the other guys (and myself, I'm sure) go into PROFOUND altered states when playing songs.

I've also notice the audience goes into a trance too on most songs, depending on the tempo and the beat.

Actually, I'm willing to suggest that rock and roll is just a massive hypnotic trance of the nation. The players AND the audience are ALL in trance ALL the time... even during riots.

4. When I look at my puppy, Gabrielle, I go into a happy trance. This ALWAYS happens... and it takes precedence over any other trance I'm in (that I'm aware of).

5. When I look at certain books in my room, I go into a hypnotic trance and think about how awesome they are.

I have a lot of Bukowski books, NLP books (highly recommend "My Voice Goes With You by Ernest Rossi) and my latest project: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.

These all send me into profound altered states where I think "wow, it's awesome to have so much talent right here in my study."

And then I usually pick up a book and start reading.

Hope to see other people's replies as well.

Great explanation on the true meaning of hypnosis- a natural state that we all go into on a daily basis (perhaps to often).

I believe hypnosis once understood can really empower people to make dramatic changes in their lives & realise the power of their subconcious mind.

Hope you don't mind but i will be borrowing your phrase when challenged:
" You've missed out one of the most enriching experiences of your life."
BTW my favorite trance is while driving-i find myself way more efficient and makes to time go alot faster.

Congrats on the videos you have put out all month..a great resource ..cant wait to see what comes next

Regards
